I’ve been reading the amusing, and in many respects tragic book Last Store Standing which is about the decline in the music industry and particularly the once fabulous Independent Record Stores. Below is a list of stores mentioned in the book that have their own websites, so music fans who want to help support the indie stores can provide them with our patronage.
The stores mentioned, that I know and have visited include
Store’s Mentioned I don’t know:
In the checking of the sites, it looks as though a few more stores may have said farewell given that their web sites no longer respond.
Not mentioned in the book, but also brilliant:
Book’s website – http://www.lastshopstanding.co.uk
If you want to check the book out yourself – then visit one of the above indie record shops. Or if you need Amazon, then go here.

Great news The Delays are touring again this autumn – dates here. Hopefully we’ll see another album out soon as well.
In addition to that I checked out a recent Daytrotter session by a group called Copeland. It isn’t heard to imagine this as The Delays in a chilled out mood. worth checking out the session at http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/copeland-involving-us-in-their-autumn-concert/20030783-3738097.html

New Album Out September 8
Epic Records is proud to announce the September 8th release of Howie Day’s highly anticipated third studio album, SOUND THE ALARM. It’s been close to six years since the singer-songwriter released his last album Stop All The World Now which spawned the massive # 1 hit single, “Collide” and went on to sell over 1 million copies worldwide. The album is a stunning collection of the kind of emotionally resonant, melody-minded pop-rock gems that have earned Day a legion of devoted fans over the past 10 years.
